Help Chain

Terms of Service

What Help Chain is, what it is not, what we do and do not check about the people on it, and the rules you agree to by using it.

Last updated

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Help Chain mobile application and related services ("Help Chain", "the app", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Help Chain.

1. What Help Chain Is

Help Chain is a platform that connects people who need help with nearby people willing to offer it. A person posts a help request; nearby users who are on duty are notified; one accepts; and the two are connected by live location sharing and chat until the help is completed.

Help Chain is a technology platform that facilitates connections between users. We are not a party to the interaction between users. We do not provide, supervise, direct, or control the help itself. Any assistance is provided directly by one user to another, on their own terms and at their own discretion.

We do not employ, engage, endorse, recommend, or take responsibility for any user. Nobody on Help Chain acts as our employee, agent, contractor, or representative, and no user has authority to make any commitment on our behalf. We are an intermediary within the meaning of the Information Technology Act, 2000: what users post, say, and do is theirs, not ours.

Help Chain is not an emergency service, a roadside assistance service, a medical service, a towing service, a taxi service, a security service, or a courier service, and it must never be used in place of one. In an emergency in India, dial 112.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding contract to use Help Chain. By using the app you confirm that you meet these requirements. We may suspend or close any account we reasonably believe belongs to someone under 18.

3. Your Account

  • You must register with a working mobile number and keep your account details accurate.

  • You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Do not share your account or let anyone else use it.

  • One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone or misrepresent who you are.

  • Tell us immediately at connect.helpchain@gmail.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. ⚠️ Important: We Do Not Screen or Verify Users

Help Chain does not conduct background checks, criminal record checks, identity verification beyond mobile number confirmation, driving licence checks, or any other vetting of its users.

Verifying a mobile number confirms only that a person controls that number. It does not confirm their identity, character, intentions, competence, or suitability to help you or to receive help from you. Ratings and reviews on Help Chain are submitted by other users and are not verified by us.

You are meeting a stranger. Treat every interaction with the same caution you would apply to meeting any unknown person, and use your own judgment about whether to proceed.

4.1 Checking the other person is your responsibility

Before you agree to meet, travel to, accept help from, or provide help to anyone on Help Chain, it is your responsibility to satisfy yourself that doing so is safe and appropriate. That includes, where it matters to you:

  • confirming who the other person actually is;
  • confirming they are competent and legally permitted to do whatever is being asked (for example, that someone offering to drive a vehicle holds a valid licence and insurance);

  • deciding whether the location, the time of day, and the circumstances are safe for you;

  • deciding whether to involve a friend, a family member, the police, or a professional service instead of, or in addition to, another user.

We do not perform any of these checks for you and we do not verify anything a user tells you. If you are not satisfied, do not proceed — declining costs you nothing.

5. Assumption of Risk

Help Chain involves arranging in-person meetings between people who do not know each other, often in unfamiliar places. This carries real risk, including the risk of injury, loss, theft, fraud, harassment, or worse.

By using Help Chain, you acknowledge and voluntarily accept these risks. You are solely responsible for your decisions about whom to interact with, whether to travel to a location, and whether to accept or provide help.

We strongly encourage you to:

  • Meet in public, well-lit places wherever possible.
  • Tell someone you trust where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Stop and leave if a situation feels unsafe.
  • Contact the police immediately in an emergency — Help Chain is not an emergency service and must never be relied on as one. In India, dial 112.

5.1 Release

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release Help Chain and its owners, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, costs, and liabilities of every kind — known or unknown, suspected or unsuspected — arising out of or in any way connected with a dispute, act, omission, injury, loss, theft, fraud, harassment, property damage, or any other harm involving you and another user, whether it occurs online, in a chat, or in person.

This does not apply to anything a court holds we cannot lawfully be released from, and it does not limit any right you have to pursue the other user directly, or to report the matter to the police.

6. Your Conduct

You agree that you will not:

  • Use Help Chain to commit or facilitate any crime, including theft, fraud, robbery, assault, kidnapping, or trafficking.

  • Post a false or misleading help request, or lure anyone to a location under false pretences.

  • Harass, threaten, stalk, defame, or discriminate against any user.
  • Share content that is unlawful, obscene, hateful, or infringes anyone's rights.

  • Solicit or collect other users' personal information for purposes unrelated to a specific help interaction.

  • Misuse another user's location data, or use the app to track, follow, or surveil anyone.

  • Use the app while operating a vehicle in a manner that breaks the law or endangers anyone.

  • Attempt to circumvent, disable, reverse-engineer, or overload the app or its security.

  • Create a new account to evade a suspension or ban.

7. Reporting and Enforcement

If a user behaves unsafely or unlawfully, report them from the chat screen or email connect.helpchain@gmail.com.

We may investigate reports and, at our discretion, warn, restrict, suspend, or permanently close an account. Filing a report causes us to preserve the records related to that report beyond our usual retention period, so that the matter can be properly investigated and, if appropriate, provided to law enforcement.

Nothing in these Terms prevents you from reporting a crime to the police, and we encourage you to do so. Contacting us is not a substitute for contacting the authorities.

8. Data, Location and Privacy

Help Chain collects and processes personal data — including precise and background location — as described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

You specifically acknowledge that:

  • While you are on duty, or while you have an open help request, your location is shared as described in the Privacy Policy.

  • Your name, photo, rating, and live location are visible to the user you are matched with for the duration of a help interaction.

  • When you delete your account it is closed immediately and your data is permanently deleted 30 days later. Signing in during those 30 days restores the account. Records are kept beyond that only where an investigation is open or where Indian law requires it — see Section 4 of the Privacy Policy.

  • Deleting your account deletes the chats you were part of, which removes them for the other person as well.

  • We may preserve and disclose your data in response to valid legal process.

9. Coins, Payments and Subscriptions

Where the app offers coins, subscriptions, or other paid features, prices and terms are shown at the point of purchase. Payments are processed by third-party payment providers, subject to their own terms. Unless required by law, coins and subscription fees are non-refundable. We may change pricing prospectively on notice.

10. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Help Chain is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

  • We do not warrant that any help will be offered, accepted, completed, or performed adequately, or that any user is trustworthy, competent, or safe.

  • We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that location data, distance estimates, or arrival times will be accurate. Location accuracy depends on your device, your network, and factors outside our control.

  • Push notifications may be delayed or fail to arrive, including where your device's operating system or battery settings restrict background activity.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Help Chain and its officers, employees, and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of or connected with your use of the app.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or connected with these Terms or your use of the app is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) INR 1,000.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that applicable Indian law does not permit us to exclude.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Help Chain and its officers, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the app, your breach of these Terms, your violation of any law, or your interaction with any other user.

13. Suspension and Termination

You may stop using Help Chain and delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account (also available at Settings → Delete Account). Your account is closed immediately, and your data is permanently deleted 30 days later. If you change your mind, signing in with the same number and password within those 30 days restores the account in full. Your phone number is reserved for you for that period and cannot be registered by anyone else. After the 30 days, deletion is irreversible, we cannot recover anything, and the number is released for new sign-ups.

You cannot delete your account while you have an active help request or are in the middle of helping someone — cancel or complete it first, so the person relying on you is not left stranded.

We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, created a risk or legal exposure for us or another user, or engaged in unlawful conduct. Deleting and re-creating an account is not a way to escape a suspension. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 4.1, 5, 5.1, 8, 10, 11, 12, and 15 — will survive.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. Where changes are material, we will give reasonable notice in the app or by other means before they take effect. Continuing to use Help Chain after the changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under Indian law, the courts at Gurugram, Haryana, India, will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms.

16. Grievance Officer
